World Architecture Day 2026 in Opole - space, people, community

On October 16, 2026, Opole became a place where architecture, history, and social engagement meet. World Architecture Day Celebrations, co-organized by students and lecturers of the University of Applied Sciences in Nysa (UAS in Nysa), in cooperation with the Opole Regional Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland, were held under the slogan “Space, People, Community.”

The event was meant to highlight the importance of architecture in everyday life, as well as its role in building human connections and shaping friendly public spaces. The engagement of the UAS academic community in NYSA was an important element of the undertaking, combining architectural education with practice and active engagement with the local community.

One of the main programmes was “ The Green Relay” – the collaborative construction of a pavilion, encouraging active co-creation of spaces and promotion of urban greenery. Another vital element of the event was an architectural-historical walking tour called “In the Footsteps of the City Walls,” led by Dr Joanna Filipczyk, which allowed exploration of Opole through the lens of its history and preserved heritage.

The launch of the “Shaping Space” programme became essential for architectural education and became the highlight of the proceedings. The initiative underlined the importance of developing spatial awareness among young people and fostering a responsible approach to design and the environment in which we live.

The programme finished with an evening mapping on the elevation of a historic townhouse near the Opole Philharmonic, created under the direction of Michał Kaczmarzyk, MSc, Architect and lecturer at UAS in Nysa. The multimedia presentation of architecture became a final artistic flourish of the event, combining urban space with modern forms of visual expression.

This year’s celebrations reminded us that architecture means much more than buildings and their designs. It also stands for human connections, preserving the memory of a place’s history, caring for the environment, and responsibility for the space we all share. The slogan “Space, People, Community.” highlighted that a good city takes shape through teamwork, collaboration and dialog between its residents.

World Architecture Day in Opole became an opportunity to view the city as a shared asset, worthy of recognition, development and co-creation.
